Shining A Light on the Benefits of Red Light Therapy

The anti-aging process is a topic that seems to be eternally on our minds. In a perfect world, you could begin establishing a skin-care routine around the age of 12, employing a gentle cleanser or moisturizer. In adolescence, this evolves into a skin-type specific cleanser in the event of an untimely breakout.

However, as we age, the foundational wellspring of our youthful appearance begins to tragically diminish - collagen. Due to natural causes and external lifestyle habits, you’ve got a formula for drooping, loss of elastin, and special guest star “fine lines”.

You may be wondering, “Is it too late to begin repairing my skin?” or “Is there a way that I can have firmer skin without spending a fortune on creams and serums?” or “I need joint and muscle help too, help!?”

In short, your answers to these questions are “No way!”, "Absolutely" and "Join us, We've got you covered!"

This is exactly where the benefits of red light therapy come in. As proven in clinical studies, red light therapy encourages the body to naturally produce its own collagen and elastin, which can make fine lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable and give the skin a fresher, more youthful appearance for an array of skin conditions or wound healing with high satisfaction rates.

This means there is now a way to make skin look younger through using lamps that emit gentle, non-invasive wavelengths of light through. Because of how red light therapy works, you can start treatment right away and begin to see results in a matter of weeks.

What does red light therapy do?

Now available in two locations, University Place near Tacoma and Vancouver, WA near Portland,  red light therapy provides a quick and easy dose of non-invasive, damage-free, healing solar energy that provides the right jolt of vitamins and cellular activity.

Does red light therapy work?

Backed by over 4,000 clinical trials, red light therapy has been shown to lessen the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, correct discoloration, induce weight loss in targeted areas, decrease muscle recovery time, and more. RLT improves skin tone, texture and feeling, providing safe and satisfying photobiomodulation (the use of red and near infrared light for a quick science lesson) without heat or damage.

The benefits of red light therapy are more than skin-deep

Although this treatment is not a cure-all, these light spectrums are found everywhere through sunlight and are beneficial to multiple cellular functions. One of the major benefits of red light therapy is that it provides the advantages of sunlight, a great benefit for those that live in rainy, cloudy areas. There is a wide array of red light therapy benefits:

  • Improve the appearance of skin

  • Encourages elastin and collagen production, resulting in reduced visibility of wrinkles

  • Accelerate the healing of wounds

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Alleviate symptoms of eczema, rosacea, or psoriasis

  • Reduce the appearance of scars

  • Improve acne

  • Repair hyperpigmented skin

  • Stimulate hair growth

  • Ease joint and muscle pain

  • Shorten muscle recovery time after workouts

Color Therapy: Getting on the Right Wavelength

Let's take a closer look into the science of light therapy and discover how beams of light can affect the body in so many great ways. First, we need to understand light therapy.

Red light stimulates cells in a way in which other wavelengths are not capable. Blue light waves are too short and can only penetrate the first layer of skin. They can be ideal for calming and stress relief. Green light is used for mild gastrointestinal relief and serotonin production. Yellow light can awaken spiritualism and promote positivity.

We use two types of light for red light treatment: red and near-infrared. This will provide you with a luxurious experience and a surge of stimulating, heart-pumping, endorphins.

How Does Red Light Therapy Work: The Science Behind Our Internal Battery

Red light therapy, a form of photodynamic chromatherapy, is also called photobio-modulation (PBM) and low-level light therapy (LLLT). Chromatherapy is the study of using different colors of light and their wavelengths to heal imbalances of the physical body. They can improve one's mental state, assist in disease prevention, and improve psychological well-being.

To derive the greatest amount of red light therapy benefits during your appointment, we provide two forms of red light therapy: Light emitting diodes (LED), and near-infrared bulbs. These forms of light are measured via wavelength in nanometers (nm). This light is absorbed by the skin, muscles, and bones and transformed into energy.

Red light does not tan or damage the skin. Because of its longer wavelength, it can penetrate to a depth of about 10mm.

Red Light = ATP = Energized Cells = Bodily Adaptation and Repair

The benefits of red light therapy come, in part, from how red light therapy works on a cellular level. Red light activates the part of a cell known as mitochondria. This stimulates the production of energetic molecules known as ATP, or adenosine triphosphate.

ATP carries energy to stimulate cell production in different parts of the body. Each cell has a job within this system and waits for this chemical call to action to tackle the next task. With more energy, our cells are more likely to accomplish their new goals to keep our bodies healthy.

Upon this cellular activation, areas of the body become stronger and better adapted to stresses. This could include injury, muscle soreness, or joint pain. It's easy to see why athletes under chronic high-endurance training have lower recovery times between workouts or competitions!
